
Leona Louise Lewis (born on April 3, 1985) is a British singer, songwriter actor, activist and actress. She was born and raised in London Borough of Islington and went to Croydon's BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. Lewis was a star on the national stage when she was crowned the winner of The"X Factor"'s third series in 2006. Also, she was awarded a PS1 million recording contract with Syco Music. Her winner's single, an original cover to Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This" was a top-charting number one for four weeks on UK Singles Chart and broke a world record by reaching 100,000 digital downloads in only thirty minutes. Clive Davis's label J Records, signed Lewis to a 5-album deal in February 2007. Lewis maintained her popularity with Spirit the first studio album. It was 10x platinum accredited in the UK. Spirit became the fourth most-sold album in 2000, and it was also one of the most popular UK albums. Spirit was, according to Official Charts Company is the highest-selling debut album by a female artist. The top UK single, Bleeding Love, remained at the top of the charts at. #1 for seven weeks, and was the biggest-seller of 2007, as per the Official Charts Corporation. In the US, it was the most-seller single of 2008 and Lewis was proclaimed Best New Artist by Billboard the same year. Her debut album was Echo in 2009 and released "I Love You", the movie's theme song. Lewis also came out with "Collide" in 2011, a joint effort along with Swedish DJ Avicii. Also, she released Hurt, the EP, her first ever extended-play. Glassheart (2012) came out as Lewis' 3rd studio album. It's an intriguing new direction. Lewis draws inspiration from dubstep and electronic music. During her Glassheart Tour in 2013, she began writing material for her first Christmas album. The Christmas album, with Love came out in the latter half of 2013. The album's first single, One More Sleep, reached the top spot on the charts in the UK. In the wake of this chart, Lewis became the first British woman soloist in the top 5 spot with eight singles. This was more than Olivia Newton-John's record which was seven.
