Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72 years old at Long Beach in California. DuVernay was encouraged to pursue her love of art by DuVernay's aunt Denise when she was a kid. Her aunt was a nurse and was a night shift worker so she could devote her days to theatre and literature as well as art. DuVernay's father recalled watching the historical civil rights marches over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the neighboring city of Selma Alabama. The summers she spent in Selma, Alabama would influence her later on to create the film about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was awarded her high school diploma at Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. She attended University of California Los Angeles to earn degrees in English as well as African American Studies. DuVernay began producing television news when she was just a young student. She began as an intern for CBS News during the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay recalled being asked to examine the garbage in the house of one of jury. After being disappointed in journalism due to the work she was assigned, DuVernay decided to pursue a career in publicity. DuVernay was hired right out of college as an assistant publicist in a small studio. Her private PR company, The DuVernay Agency was established in 1999. In addition to PR her agency also launched several social media and lifestyle networks, including The Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
